Memorial Services

A family memorial service is generally conducted on the first day of each month. Services are also conducted at the Reno Howakai once a month from April through October, except in September when fall food bazaar is held.

January: New Year's Day Service (Shusho-e shares the joy of starting another year together)

February: Nirvana Day (Nehan-e observes the passing of Sakyamuni Buddha into Nirvana)

March: Spring Ohigan (celebrates the spring solstice for harmony of nature and renewal of life)

April: Hanamatsuri (commemorates the birth of the Gautama Buddha)

May: Gotan-e (commemorates the birth of Shinran Shonin, founder of Pure Land Sect)

June: Reno Howakai

July: Reno Obon

August:

Obon (memorializes those who have passed on before us and rededicate ourselves to the Buddhist way of life)

Fall Ohigan (renews the practice of the six Paramitas)

Bodhi Day (Buddha attained enlightenment or Buddhahood)
