Memorial Services
A family memorial service is generally conducted on the first day
of each month. Services are also conducted at the Reno Howakai once
a month from April through
October, except in September when fall food bazaar is held.

Special Services
January: New Year's Day Service (Shusho-e shares the joy of
starting another year together)
February: Nirvana Day (Nehan-e observes the passing of Sakyamuni Buddha
into Nirvana)
March: Spring Ohigan (celebrates the spring solstice for harmony of
nature and renewal of life)
April: Hanamatsuri (commemorates the birth of the Gautama Buddha)
May: Gotan-e (commemorates the birth of Shinran Shonin, founder of
Pure Land Sect)
June: Reno Howakai
July: Reno Obon
August:
Obon (memorializes those who have passed on before us and rededicate
ourselves to the Buddhist way of life)

October:
Fall Ohigan (renews the practice of the six Paramitas)
Reno Howakai
November: Hoonko (memorializes founder Shinran Shonin)
December:
Bodhi Day (Buddha attained enlightenment or Buddhahood)
Year End Service (Joya-e rejoices with gratitude the many
blessings of the past year)
